The NAGB
Freelance Client
Graphic Design | Illustration | Print Design | Animation
The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas (NAGB) wanted to re-energize their brand to reflect the vibrant, eclectic and diverse programming offered. On a regular freelance basis, social, digital, and print collateral were created to publicize calls for work and promote gallery openings.
POTCAKE
Exhibition Opening
Who let the dogs out?
The gallery put out an open call to artists requesting works inspired by “Potcakes”.
“Potcakes” are a mixed breed of dog commonly found throughout the Caribbean and the unique name originated because people “fed the caked remains of the cooking pot to the dogs.”
The visuals created reflect the unique nature and appearance of potcakes. As the mood board above reflects, human fingers prints inspired the line work incorporated in the graphics. Dog toys inspired the shapes used throughout the graphics to capture the lively energy potcakes exude. The line work was also inspired by the fur of dogs and their dynamism.
REFUGE
Exhibition Opening
A shelter for reflection & community.
“Refuge” was an exhibition that was conceived to uplift and give space to visual artists and writers in The Bahamas after the country was hit by Hurricane Dorian. It was intended to provide a space for reflection and community.
The visuals were inspired by the 3D piece featured in the roll out by local artist Jace McKinney, “Angelo’s Wings” (2006).
Rather than using dark muted tones, the blocks of color were chosen to emphasize the hopeful tone of the exhibition. The style of the type lockup, reflected the creation and expansion of space that the gallery fostered post-Dorian.
RESURRECTION
Exhibition Opening
Resurrection & Reflection
The Gallery brought to life a collection of over 110 works from the master Bahamian artist, Chan Pratt, celebrating his life and creativity posthumously in "Resurrection."
The 8 page brochure was created for the opening of the exhibition. The muted colors of the brochure were reflective of the hues and tones used in Pratt’s work.
‘SHARED STORIES’
Vizcaya & The Bahamas - Artist Talk
Sharing is caring
Social media graphics were created to promote an artist talk at the NAGB centered around “looking into the linkages between the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens in Miami and The Bahamas.”
The mood board above illustrates the key ideas that drove the process. I wanted to visualize the dissecting of ideas and the linkages that would be explored during the talk. The line work and symbols were inspired by analog clocks, geometry and way-finding systems.
Sue Katz
Exhibition Opening & Open Studio
Katz. Sue, Katz!
The graphics created to promote this exhibition were directly inspired by Sue’s bold use of color and collage. Bright blocks of color mimic the vibrant jar labels featured in the Katz work. The overlapping elements in the graphics create depth, similarly to the way Katz layers her work to create such vibrant compositions.
